In the summer of 2024, I designed the logo, t-shirt, social media ads, and posters for UNC Charlotte’s annual RecFest, a University Recreation event held every August that draws over 4,000 attendees. RecFest introduces students to UREC’s programs and services while creating opportunities to connect with campus partners, student organizations, and local vendors. This year’s visual direction centered on a Y2K, futuristic, and cosmic aesthetic, which was carried throughout the shirt design to match the energy of the event.

The shirt takes inspiration from Y2K and futuristic design elements, reflecting the theme of this year’s RecFest and the high-energy atmosphere of the event. The layout highlights UREC offerings such as weightlifting and intramurals, with a swoosh linking the back text to a dodgeball player illustration to guide the viewer’s eye through the design. Supporting graphic elements inspired by the cosmic aesthetic, such as repeated typography, layered athlete imagery, and technical line details—create a sense of motion and depth. Together, these elements form a bold, cohesive visual system that feels dynamic, modern, and aligned with the excitement of RecFest.

LOGO DESIGN
The logo was built around a cosmic theme, using Saturn-inspired rings surrounding “RECFEST” to reinforce the space concept while adding visual weight to the mark. The tilted typography was chosen to give the logo a futuristic, energetic, and dynamic personality that reflects the event’s atmosphere. 
Throughout the design process, I experimented with multiple directions, testing different color palettes, star styles, typography treatments, and layout arrangements to improve readability and overall brand energy. The goal was to balance creativity with clarity so the logo could work across digital promotion, merchandise, and event materials while remaining recognizable. The final design features a star inside the “R” as a subtle detail that completes the cosmic branding concept and ties the composition together.

For the social media and print advertisements, the goal was to highlight both the exclusive shirt and the event while staying true to the established theme. Each post was designed to gradually reveal elements of the shirt or event details, helping build anticipation and generate excitement leading up to the event. The promotional strategy focused on creating consistent visual storytelling across platforms, ensuring the designs felt connected while still offering fresh visuals with each post to keep the audience engaged and interested.

THE EVENT
The event went very smoothly from start to finish, with strong turnout and positive engagement from attendees throughout the day. The promotional work leading up to the event helped build excitement and contributed to record-high participant numbers. All event-exclusive t-shirts sold out during the event, showing strong interest in both the design and the overall event experience and atmosphere.​​​​​​​
